Higher Education
ABA Speaker Series
I wrote this press release to promote the fourth annual training seminar for the Applied Behavior Analysis Speaker Series held at UMass Dartmouth. While I worked at the Professional and Continuing Education Marketing Department, this assignment contributed to the marketing campaign. The press release appeared in the Fall River Herald News print edition and on the UMass Dartmouth Website.
UMD Professor at BBF
As the Director of Communications for Changing Lives Through Literature (CLTL), I worked on publicity for the Boston Book Festival’s presentation Unbound:Books Behind Bars. As part of a publicity campaign, I wrote this press release to promote the Boston Book Festival. My efforts resulted in a positive article for CLTL and a sold out venue at New England’s premiere literary event.
Healthcare
MRC Hosts Annual Training
As a Communications Specialist and Coordinator of Corporate communications, I attended the MRC’s Annual Training and interviewed volunteers from the Greater Fall River Medical Reserve Corps. Annual Training events strengthen public health, emergency response, and community resiliency. This press release appeared in the print version of The Spectator and the electronic version of SouthCoast Today. I wrote the press release to publicize the event and recruit new volunteers.
MRC Receives FEMA Training
The Noble Training Facility serves as the only hospital in the United Stated dedicated to training healthcare professionals in disaster preparedness and response. I conducted research about the hospital and gathered statistics pertaining to influenza from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. After interviewing the attendees, I wrote this press release to inform the public that members of the MRC had participated in a FEMA training.
Business and Technical Writing:
Grant Writing
As the Director of Communication for Changing Lives Through Literature, I wrote and submitted a grant for the prestigious Justice Awards. The Foundation for Improvement of Justice improves local, state and federal systems of justice.
Strategic Communications Plan
As the Director of Corporate Communications, I wrote a Strategic Communications Plan for the Greater Fall River Medical Reserve Corps. Planning short and long-term goals resulted in recruiting new members increasing positive media coverage.
Copywriting
I researched the fireplace industry and learned about the hazards of owning a fireplace. I targeted a specific group of homeowners who own a fireplace. I wrote copy warning fireplace owners about the hazards of creosote. I created the brochure as spec work for a graduate course.
I copyedited and proofread the print checking for grammatical integrity and sentence structure. This freelance writing assignment contributed to the editorial and production process of this brochure for the company It’z a Dog’s Life.
Electronic Publishing and Web Writing:
Blogging
I contributed to the branding of CLT and Dr. Robert P. Waxler, Professor at UMass Dartmouth and Co-Founder of Changing Lives Through Literature. The Boston Book Festival provided a platform to promote the fact that prison literacy programs reduce the rate of recidivism. The article narrated the compelling stories of criminal offenders and their involvement in prison literacy programs.
Web Writing
I worked on a marketing campaign with Professional and Continuing Education at UMass Dartmouth. The campaign included a Poster, Open House, a pitch letter, and e-mail blast through Constant Contact. This assignment promoted the RN to BS Online Nursing Program. I collaborated with members of the marketing team to write this landing page.
Radio Script
I co-wrote this script for a radio commercial which aired on the Cape Cod. The commercial promoted an information session to recruit nursing students for the RN to BS Online Nursing Program at UMass Dartmouth. The radio script was part of a marketing campaign in the Professional and Continuing Education/ University Extension Marketing Department.
PowerPoint Presentation
I gave a public presentation and developed key messages to targeted groups. The project demonstrated that I could communicate short and long-term goals from the Strategic Communications Plan. I created a PowerPoint Presentation from photos I had taken.
I posted this project on Slidehare to demonstrate that I know how to use Web 2.0 tools. According to Forbes Magazine, Slideshare is the web’s leading slide-hosting service.
