As the Director of Communication for Changing Lives Through Literature (CLTL), I worked on publicity for the Boston Book Festival’s presentation Unbound: Books Behind Bars.

I garnered publicity by writing an initial press release. The Chronicle and the print edition of the Herald News printed the release resulting in a sold out venue at the Boston Public Library.  I also wrote an article for the Changing Lives, Changing Minds Blog  encapsulating the event in a digital format.

Dr. Robert Waxler, co-founder of CLTL, served as the moderator at New England’s premiere literary event which featured representatives from literacy organizations and former criminal offenders. Participants discussed how prison literacy programs reduce the rate of recidivism.

I demonstrated my PR skills by accomplishing the following.

Writing:

  • excellent written communications and media relations skills resulted in a published press release
  • developed web communications by crafting a well-told story for the blog
  • promoted Prison Literacy programs

Social:

  • increased enrollment at the BBF by generating publicity
  • effective use of digital photography on social media
  • drove brand awareness for CLTL and prison literacy
